Primary 4G

Dear Parent/Carer,

I am delighted to have joined St. Clement’s this year and am looking forward to working with P4G.  Miss Forbes will also be working with the class on a Wednesday.  We have started this term looking at friendships and how to be a good friend. The children have enjoyed this mini topic and have been trying hard to put their learning into practice.

Now that we have settled into school, we will be starting our new topic which is a science based topic about the human body. We will be exploring how the body works and looking at health and diseases.  The topic links in with health and wellbeing because we will be looking at ways to keep our bodies healthy.

In literacy and language, we will be focusing on writing skills and developing a secure understanding of grammar and punctuation. We will also continue to develop skills in spelling and handwriting. Our book study this term will be ‘Matilda’ by Roald Dahl. I will also be encouraging reading for pleasure by giving the children access to the class library and starting reading rings with them. Please encourage your child to read as much as possible out of school, too.

Our numeracy work will focus on addition and subtraction skills alongside place value. I will be encouraging the children to develop their own strategies for problem solving and ensure that their numeracy skills are improving before we move onto multiplication next term.

We are looking at the work of Andy Warhol and creating some art inspired by him. The children have already worked on our ‘Converse’ artwork with Miss Forbes and will be moving onto creating Warhol inspired celebrity pictures with me next week.  The children are very proud of the work they have done so far.

I will be sending home a home learning grid on Monday which can be discussed and completed.  Completed home learning tasks will be due back 2 weeks after it is given out.

We have recently created a Twitter account for the class for you to follow and keep up to date with the work we are doing.  The account is @StClementsP4g. Please follow us.

Thank you for all your support. Do not hesitate to leave a note in your child’s homework jotter or contact the school if you have any queries.
